Manpower
and Maintenance Services Limited (MMS), was duly incorporated under the
Company’s Act of Jamaica as a Limited Company on May 4, 1990. The
company was established primarily to provide Janitorial, building and
grounds maintenance services to health care institutions.
Its
impeccable track record of performance and service delivery at the Tony
Thwaites Wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies, however,
ensured that the company quickly attracted among its clients,
commercial enterprises such as banks and offices, construction and
renovation sites, sport facilities, hotel, college campus, factories,
shopping malls and prestige homes.
Manpower is also sought after
for other services including: carpet care, pest control, landscape
design and maintenance, maid service, plumbing, carpentry, the cleaning
of entertainment venues, the provision of wash room supplies, among
others.
The need for a mixed cadre of labour / manpower became
apparent, hence in collaboration with Caribbean Health Management
Consultants Ltd., through its division of Health Professional Placement
Services (HPPS), it commenced recruiting, training and placing both
temporary and permanent personnel in a variety of settings and on a
range of assignments. Additionally, Manpower is consulted by private
and public sector institutions in the Caribbean region for assistance
with preparation for privatizing janitorial and portering services in
health care facilities.
Today, the company boasts a contingent of
over 1,300 members of both full-time and part-time staff, servicing
over 140 clients at 120 locations island-wide. The company has
also acquired the assets of Office Services Limited.
Manpower’s
research, development and planning unit constantly strives to keep the
company’s services on the cutting edge of the industry by keeping
abreast of the requirements of modern facilities and related
technologies.
Manpower proudly holds the position of being the
first company in Jamaica to be a member of Building Service Contractors
Association International (BSCAI) and has earned a place in the “Who’s
Who in Building Service Contracting” listing, a publication of the
BSCAI. Manpower is also among the few Caribbean companies that are
members of the Cleaning Management Institute and is a founding member
of the Jamaica Association of Commercial Cleaning Contractors.
The
company operates at the high end of the market with attainable aims and
objectives guided by its philosophy, mission and pledge to clients
which is stated in its Customer Service Charter. The Charter is
enforced by a Works / Quality Assurance Manager.
Manpower lists
among its clients prominent organizations in the service industry
including Jamaica’s major airports, the Norman Manley and Sangster
International; the University of the West Indies and Spanish Town
hospitals; Government Ministries; Food and Beverage – Nestle, Wray
